It’s that time of year where resolutions are being made and goals are being set. In our household, we set traditional goals and choose one word for 2019 to focus on. I have been doing this practice for years with friends and as the kids got older, it became a family affair. I will admit that this is the first year that I struggled to find a word, finally chose a word and verse and then (after much prayer and reflection) two weeks into January, I changed my word and verse again.

My Previous #OneWord Choices
He who tills his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty. – Proverbs 28:19 NASB
2017 Yield – *This is the first year I chose a bible verse to complement my word.
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. – Exodus 14:14 NIV
My One Word For 2019
reboot: [verb] to start (something) anew : to refresh (something) by making a new start or creating a new version
I’m a planner (This is the planner I’m using this year) and last year I had great plans. My word was cultivate and I loved everything about this word and the spirit it brings. I was ready to cultivate my life and grow exponentially through self discovery. Well, when I looked back at my goals, only one of my five yearly goals was accomplished. That is a 20% success rate and I was not here for it. I am an overachiever and this did not sit right with my soul. I struggled with writing goals and focusing on the new year because of my lovely failure rate. And then I thought about God’s grace and my perspective shifted. So, I decided to REBOOT. A do-over of sorts. Why not? It’s my life and not to mention I’m 40 now, so I promised myself to live more positively and confidently and just do what feels right in my life and although it’s January, a REBOOT was necessary to get me going. So, here’s to a year of reboots when necessary.
I plan to REBOOT my:
–hobby by committing to a writing schedule
–career by building my writing portfolio
–home by creating a (mostly) paperless home
–family by increasing our reading minutes
–personal growth by reading even more and cutting down on social media minutes.
My Bible Verse for 2019
My Type A personality needs reassurance that rebooting every now and then is perfectly ok. I need to know that perfection is not expected and it is not attainable. So, when my goals get away from me, my verse reminds me that if I am a believer, then I am entitled to a REBOOT every now and then.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! ~ Corinthians 5:17
And now it’s time to REBOOT. I have old goals and new goals I need to accomplish. Before you go, please share your #oneword or bible verse for this year in the comments below. I’d love to hear your focus for this year.
Hugs and love,
